Frequently asked questions

We've gathered the most common questions about container eligibility to help you understand what you can return. Our goal is to make the recycling process as clear and easy as possible for everyone in Brisbane.

What types of drink containers can I return to iReturn for a refund?

Most aluminium, glass, plastic, steel and liquid paperboard beverage containers between 150ml and 3L are eligible for a 10-cent refund. We recommend using the Containers for Change eligibility checker if you're still unsure: https://www.containersforchange.com.au/qld/#block_reference-90

Containers will display the refund mark (e.g. “10c refund at collection depots/points in participating State/Territory of purchase”). However, glass wine and pure spirit bottles are exempt from displaying the 10c mark until approximately January 2027.

Do the containers need to be in a certain condition when I bring them in?

To ensure a positive experience for everyone, we request that containers be fully empty. If fully or partially filled, they will not be accepted.

Are there any containers that iReturn can't accept?

Generally, the following containers are not eligible unless specified on that container:

  • Those less than 150ml and greater than 3L
  • Plain milk containers of all sizes including plant-based milk substitutes
  • Cask wine
  • Containers 1L or more that contained flavoured milk, pure fruit or vegetable juice, cask wine or cask water
  • Concentrated/undiluted cordial or syrup containers
  • Sachets above 250ml that have contained wine
  • Registered health tonics
